Learning & development

Learning culture in logistics - growing together, taking responsibility, shaping the future.

At WM GROUP we believe: Logistics is only really strong when people can develop. Our learning culture ensures that initial practical experience turns into real career paths - from starting out in the warehouse to management level, from trainee to site manager or from dual study programme to project management.

As a medium-sized family business, we combine reliability and tradition with a young, dynamic management team. If you want to take on responsibility, you will get the chance to do so - regardless of whether you start as a temporary employee, apprentice or dual study programme student.

Our learning culture at a glance

For us, learning doesn't stop after training. It accompanies everyday working life - on the shop floor, in the office, in projects and in dialogue with each other. Our learning culture stands for:

Practical learning

You will learn where added value is created - in the warehouse, in the office, in projects with real customer requirements.

Appreciation & togetherness

Here you are more than just a personnel number. We know each other, support each other and work together.

Responsibility right from the start

If you want, you can take on responsibility early on - for tasks, topics or teams.

Open communication & feedback

Short distances, direct dialogue and an open ear for your questions, ideas and critical issues.

Perspectives instead of dead ends

Apprenticeship, dual study programme, master craftsman, business economist or management responsibility - many roles, one employer.

Training: Learning right from the start - from trainee to manager

Our warehouse logistics specialist apprenticeship offers you a broad insight into all important processes - from goods receipt to dispatch to the end customer. You will learn:

  • how goods are checked, stored and picked,

  • how smooth processes are organised in the warehouse,

  • and which commercial activities in the background ensure that everything fits together.

One example of this is the path from Viktor Schwinning. After leaving school, he started out as a temporary worker, then decided to train as a warehouse logistics specialist at the WM GROUP and went on to become a team leader in Bocholt. Today, he works with other managers on topics such as improving efficiency and digitalisation.

His story shows:
If you are open-minded, willing to lend a hand and take on responsibility, you can develop step by step with us. For us, trainees are not „helping hands“, but future colleagues - also in management positions.

Viktor's attitude to new trainees: „Be open with colleagues, be prepared to lend a hand in different areas and take time management, organisation and communication seriously - these are good foundations for a career in logistics.“

Dual study programme: Theory & practice in a double pack as a project manager

You don't want to miss out on studying or practical experience? Then the dual study programme at WM GROUP is exciting for you. Here you combine:

  • Theory at vocational schools and universities of applied sciences (e.g. accounting, business administration, economics, marketing, logistics),
  • Practice at our locations in NRW with real projects and operational processes,
  • Perspective several recognised qualifications in a short space of time.

Burak Bilek has decided to do just that. He combined vocational school, studies at Münster University of Applied Sciences and practical days at the WM GROUP. His conclusion: strenuous - but rewarding. In 3.5 years, he obtains qualifications that would otherwise take around six years one after the other. At the same time, he earns his own money and can apply what he has learnt directly in the company.

In practice, Burak has, among other things:

  • in building management,
  • New construction and relocation projects,
  • supported in the implementation of new customers.

This gives him a broader range of experience than many of his fellow students at corporate groups, who often only get to know one location. From February 2025, he will continue this path as Junior Project and Process Manager at the WM GROUP.

His path is representative of our learning culture: we open up perspectives, promote the assumption of responsibility and combine knowledge with real practice.

From entry to leadership: development paths at the WM GROUP

Many of our managers started out where our trainees, temporary staff and dual students are today. We turn first steps into real careers.

Nina Krudewig, now site manager in Bocholt-Hindenburgstraße, started as a temporary employee and later completed further training in business administration. The path to management responsibility was challenging - with new demands in terms of prioritisation, delegation and time management. The decisive factor for her was that her superiors closely accompanied her on this path and placed their trust in her.

Today Nina takes responsibility for:

  • Key figures and budget,

  • your team at the site,

  • the realisation of customer requirements in day-to-day business.

She describes the WM GROUP as an employer where colleagues support each other and share responsibility - exactly what characterises our learning culture.

Another example is Anne Wüstnienhausalso started out as a dual student and is now in management as Head of Operations. Her path shows: Anyone who is willing to learn, take on responsibility and think outside the box can go far with us.

Whether it's a master craftsman title, further training as a business administrator, professional specialisation or management tasks - we accompany employees on their development paths and create space for individual career steps.

Your opportunities in our learning culture

Whether it's an apprenticeship, dual study programme, direct entry or the next step in your career - at WM GROUP you will find an environment in which learning is expressly encouraged and development is made possible.

Would you like to learn logistics from scratch?

Are you looking for a company to support you with your further training?

Do you want to take on responsibility and help shape things instead of just „doing the work“?

Then you will fit in well with our learning culture.
